After spending over a year anonymously reading numerous food and fitness blogs, I have finally decided to create my own. I am a young 20-something who moved to Chicago about 6 months ago to start a masters program in public health and my goal with this blog is to track my training for the Urbana Champagne Marathon in April and to be accountable for how I eat and fuel my body throughout the next few months. This will be my second marathon and I really want to qualify for Boston (I missed qualifying by 1 minute in my last marathon).
My passion for running began the summer before my freshman year in college. Throughout middle school and high school I was always an active girl. I played sports year round and lived on a lake. However, due to bad eating habits and a torn ACL that temporarily prevented me from many activities, I gained a lot of weight my junior and senior year in high school. The additional weight was too much for my 5'3 frame and I decided to join Medical Weight loss Clinic with my mom and was able to achieve a comfortable weight within 6 months. At the same time I graduated from high school and realized that I would no longer have mandatory practices to keep me in shape. I started running, just 2 miles a day, in order to stay fit. My dedication and zeal for running grew and I have now completed 1 marathon, 4 half marathons, and numerous 10ks.
In addition to documenting my training, I plan on posting about some of my meals. I consider myself a flexible pescatarian, meaning that I primarily follow a pescatarian diet but if my boyfriend orders some pulled pork that he claims is "the best he's ever had", I'm not going to deny myself a taste. That being said, I choose to follow this diet because it works for my body, I feel stronger, my running has improved, and little stomach issues I used to have are much improved when I don't eat meat. I have nothing against meat eaters though :).
I think that's all for now, I'll leave you with a few pictures to get a better feel for myself and the blog....
